OVERVIEW
Glasgow Central Station is the busiest station in Scotland and the fourth busiest in the UK. Within the station’s Signalling Centre, asbestos fibres were identified in the power and compressor room, resulting in severe access restrictions and the inability to safely maintain critical operational assets.
These assets support some of Scotland’s Railway’s most safety-critical E&P, Signalling, and Telecoms systems. Without intervention, the restricted access posed a growing risk to the safe and reliable operation of train services in and out of Glasgow Central.
To remove this risk and ensure long-term operational resilience, Network Rail commissioned the delivery of a new, fully segregated Principal Supply Point (PSP).

The project demanded meticulous planning, robust engineering solutions, and close collaboration across multiple disciplines.
THE SOLUTION
We were appointed to design, construct, and commission a new segregated Principal Supply Point, removing reliance on the restricted building while maintaining continuous railway operations throughout the programme.

For over 25 years, we have progressively renewed and enhanced this section of the network, applying our specialist skills and technical expertise to support the safe and reliable operation of the railway. When Network Rail requested our support to renew and relocate this critical operational equipment, we welcomed the opportunity to demonstrate the full breadth of our capabilities.
The challenge extended beyond construction alone. The scope encompassed the design, manufacture, planning, and delivery of the works, alongside the safe transfer of some of the most critical signalling power supplies and assets on the Scottish network. Delivered at Glasgow Central Station — the busiest station in Scotland and the fourth busiest in the UK — the project demanded meticulous coordination, robust planning, and absolute precision.
From initial engagement through to the AMP 016 walkout and full operational handover, the programme was delivered within a single year. The project was completed with zero incidents, no train delays, and no impact on the operational railway. This outcome reflects the strength of collaboration across all parties, the quality of the engineering delivered, and a shared commitment to maintaining a safe, resilient, and sustainable railway for the future.
