OVERVIEW

Awarded as part of Network Rail's CP6 Electrification & Plant programme, the LNE Signalling Power Distribution Renewals represented the largest contract in Kent Group's history. Approximately 44 kilometres of the LNE Route between Doncaster and Scunthorpe, the programme involved the renewal and enhancement of critical signalling power infrastructure through a fully integrated, multi-disciplinary delivery model.

Kent Group successfully delivered the complete programme, encompassing engineering, civil infrastructure, electrical installation, in-house switchgear manufacture and final testing and commissioning. Working safely within a live operational railway, the project introduced new Principal Supply Points, Auxiliary Supply Points, Functional Supply Points, upgraded 650V distribution feeders and extensive new cable infrastructure, all delivered through a carefully phased implementation strategy.

The completed programme has significantly improved the resilience, reliability and maintainability of the route's signalling power network, providing modern infrastructure that will support safe and reliable railway operations for many years to come.

THE CHALLENGE

Managing Programme Scale

Coordinating engineering, manufacturing and delivery across multiple sites while maintaining programme consistency.

Live Railway Integration

Renewing critical signalling power infrastructure while maintaining operational railway services.

Stakeholder Coordination

Working collaboratively with Network Rail, designers, manufacturers and delivery partners across numerous work locations.

Resource Management

Maintaining programme momentum through effective planning, logistics and deployment of specialist engineering teams.

THE SOLUTION

Kent Group developed a phased delivery strategy, beginning with extensive civil infrastructure works including GRP trough routes, foundations, retained bases and screw pile installations. This was followed by the installation of signalling power cabling, Functional Supply Points, Principal Supply Points, Auxiliary Supply Points and a new 6+2 track Under Track Crossing. Through carefully planned staged commissioning, signalling power was successfully transferred onto the new resilient 650V distribution network while maintaining operational continuity throughout the programme.

"The LNE Signalling Power Distribution Renewals programme represents a significant milestone in Kent Group's growth and demonstrates our ability to successfully deliver large-scale infrastructure programmes.

Coordinating multiple workstreams, engineering disciplines and operational interfaces over several years required exceptional teamwork, careful planning and a shared commitment to safety and quality.

I'm incredibly proud of everyone involved in the programme and grateful to Network Rail for their collaborative approach throughout.

Together, we've delivered infrastructure that will provide lasting benefits for the railway and reinforce the value of strong, long-term partnerships."
