CASE STUDY – EMCC DERBY REILIENCE WORKS
Client – Network Rail Infrastructure Limited
Location – East Midlands, UK
Duration – 5 Years (Inc Extended Scope)
Overview
Kent PHK delivered a critical resilience upgrade programme at Network Rail's East Midlands Control Centre (EMCC), designed to improve the reliability, maintainability, and redundancy of the site's operational power infrastructure.
The Challenge
Following historic UPS and power distribution failures, investigations identified several single points of failure and undocumented legacy circuits across the EMCC's critical electrical systems. A solution was required that would improve resilience whilst maintaining live operational railway services.
Our Solution
Working in close collaboration with Network Rail, Kent PHK delivered a phased programme of power infrastructure upgrades, including UPS enhancements, PDU modifications, circuit tracing and re-identification, dual-supply improvements, and the removal of redundant legacy infrastructure.
The Outcome
The completed works significantly improved the resilience of the EMCC's critical power systems, reduced operational risk, and enabled future UPS replacement activities. The project has provided Network Rail with a more robust, maintainable, and future-ready electrical infrastructure supporting one of its key operational control centres.
